Antibiotic resistance is growing into a major global health crisis; my research focuses on using non-antibiotic agents such as bacteriophages as antibacterial agents. My research interests are towards identifying the mechanism of antibiotic resistance among nosocomial pathogens and to evaluate the potential of bacteriophages as therapeutics.
I have expertise in working with the mechanism of antibiotic resistance among Gram-negative bacteria in relation to horizontal gene transfer (HGT), and therapeutic characterization of bacteriophages for clinical applications. In the past, my research focused on studying the prevalence of carbapenem and colistin resistance, and the role of integrons in disseminating resistance. At present, working with the characterization of Escherichia, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter phages. My research is also focused towards cloning and expression of endolysin as a potential antibacterial enzyme and the role of phageome in controlling the diversity of microbiota in human and animal gut using next-generation sequencing technologies.
